PLAYING CATCH-UP

This year’s record-setting volume of bills has created logjams and back-ups all over Austin. Merely printing bills and distributing them for review took much longer than in previous sessions. The process of referring bills to legislative committees fell behind, and those committees almost certainly will be unable to hold hearings on bills as expeditiously as they’ve done it in the past.

The bills summarized in this update (see “City-Related Bills Filed,”) were actually filed on or about Friday, March 13, and there will be more in next week’s update.

A Special Note…

Despite the extremely large number of bills, the League is tracking all city-related legislation and will keep city officials informed of any significant legislation that moves forward. That’s why it’s very important to read “Significant Committee Actions” and “Significant Floor Actions” in this and future issues of the TML Legislative Update.
