TxDOT Outdoor Advertising Regulations

The Texas Department of Transportation recently released proposed outdoor advertising rules. The proposed rules would, among other things, clarify: (1) the permit approval, amendment, and cancellation process; (2) the location requirements for billboards along state highways; and (3) the requirement for billboard maintenance access across private property.                                        

In addition, the proposed rules add economic development signs to the list of signs allowed as nonprofit signs, so long as those signs meet certain criteria. The rules will mostly affect billboard and property owners, but city officials interested in billboard regulation should review them as well.
