Urgent Updates
What the latest from the governor on the pandemic and related
items?
In an interview with KVUE News (Austin’s ABC news affiliate)
yesterday (August 10), the governor discussed many issues, including schools
opening this fall, the spread of the virus in Texas and COVID-19 vaccine
trials, the president’s executive orders, and college football returning this
fall.
Further Updates
TECHNICAL CORRECTION: Yesterday’s update asked the
following question: What’s the latest with regard to the effect of the
pandemic on public hearings, especially a city’s statutorily-required
property tax hearing?
Part of the answer was technically incorrect. The answer
read – in the relevant part: Please note that the tax hearing in question
is the one cities hold only if they are exceeding the no-new-revenue rate
(formerly called the effective rate).
The underlined portion should read: Please note
that the tax hearing in question is the one cities hold only if they are
exceeding the lower of the no-new-revenue rate (formerly called the
effective rate) or the voter-approval rate.
Thanks to Rahat Huq, Assistant City Attorney for the City of
Houston, for pointing out the error. We apologize for any confusion.
