Ancira and Wynn to Lead TML Advocacy Efforts

The Texas Municipal League (TML) announced today that Jesse Ancira and Monty Wynn will lead TML’s advocacy efforts.  Ancira will serve the League as Senior Legislative Advisor and Wynn will assume the roll of Director of Grassroots and Legislative Services.

Jesse Ancira most recently served as Chief of Staff to House Speaker Joe Straus, as well as Mayor for the City of Taylor for four of his six years on Taylor’s city council.  Ancira is also a former special agent in the Federal Bureau of Investigations and previously worked for the Comptroller of Public Accounts as Associate Deputy Comptroller and General Counsel.

Monty Wynn has worked in and around state government for nearly 30 years.  He will lead the League’s legislative efforts and work to better engage local officials in the legislative process.  Wynn has been with TML for 13 years after working for two Comptroller of Public Accounts as  legislative liaison.  He is also a former Committee Director for the House Public Education Committee and has worked in the Texas Senate.

“Jesse's and Monty’s experience at both the state and local levels will provide valuable guidance to the League in the new year.  City officials should know that they are well served in our advocacy efforts at our state capitol,” said Bennett Sandlin, TML Executive Director.

[ARCHIVED] TML Training Events and Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19)

The original item was published from March 10, 2020 1:06 PM to March 16, 2020 3:07 PM

TML is monitoring developments related to the novel coronavirus – including tracking travel restrictions, statewide developments, and following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  We want to assure city officials who are planning to attend TML training events that safety and security are our top priorities.

We are cancelling the TML training events taking place between now and April 15, which includes the Emotional Intelligence Workshop and Leadership Academy.  City officials registered for these events will be notified and registration fees will be fully refunded.  TML will make every effort to reschedule those workshops later in the year.

At this time, we’re still planning to proceed with TML training events held after April 15.  If the situation changes due to a regional quarantine or state emergency declaration, TML will reschedule or cancel other upcoming training events and notify all registrants.

TML Event Cancellation Policy

Registrants whose travel or other plans are impacted by the coronavirus may request a full refund.

Regular TML event cancellation fees/policy (as outlined on the event websites) will be applied to all other cancellation requests.

Attendees should contact their hotels directly to cancel reservations, and are responsible for any cancellation or change fees.
